On our way back it was time for a friends reunion in Kuala Lumpur.
We decided to spend a night in Kuala Lumpur on our way back. It was an extended layover if you will. We arrived at the huge Kuala Lumpur airport at night and used Grab to come to the city. While we are at it, Grab or Uber are the best things you can use to travel there.
So easy, cheap, and we had a really good experience.
Our apartment was located very central, very close to the Petronas Towers, which was the only sightseeing point we knew we had to see here in Kuala Lumpur. To our surprise, coming from peaceful Bali, the city was full of life at 4 AM. We went to sleep and woke up soon to explore as much as we can in one day, as our flight home was in the evening.
Jure, our good friend from back home is living in Malasia at the moment, so we decided to meet up that day. As soon as I stepped out of the apartment building I regretted wearing long pants but didn’t want to admit to Luka, as it was an “I told you so” moment. It was so humid and hot, almost unbearable.
We decided to walk around, find breakfast and try to something interesting to see. At least that is what we always do in European cities. But don’t do that here, you will not come far. First of all, it is too hot, and second of all, the city is not made for pedestrians. There are busy roads and huge buildings. You need a destination and an Uber.
What is a friendly place, with air condition and things to do? A shopping mall, unfortunately.
A Grab took us to the Petronas Towers, where we entered a shopping mall and looked around, waiting for our friend to meet us there. The stores are crazy. They have everything you think of and more.
Jure took us around the city, showed us the main sights and told us a little bit of the city’s history. We had to hide from the rain that appeared from nowhere and did some catching up for the majority of the day. He was also the first person we told we got engaged in person. Lovely moment 🙂
When it got dark we returned to the towers and now the city really got it’s charm. All the magnificent buildings and the lights- wonderful sights.
Overall, there is not much to do if you are not the shopping type of person. A day for a layover is more than enough if you ask us. Mind you, still a great place to see, especially at night.
Now we really came to an end to our Asia trip of 2017. Hopefully, you liked it, learned something or at least got inspired to travel more.
Next vlog is going to be a complete opposite to everything you are used to see on our site. Cold and beautiful Norway.
